Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do

I’m Californian and moved to Copenhagen in 2014 for a masters program at Copenhagen University. Since living here I’ve been an elite sprinter for KIF, Sparta, and now Gullfoss. While studying, I fell in love with Denmark and was fortunate to have a job offer upon graduation.

Track & Field is my passion in life and the 400m my love in life. Expanding my passion into my hobbies, I started a video production company, MAVathletics. MAV is focused on hosting running events and creating running commercials.

Why running?

My grandpa took me to my first track practice when I was 8, it was a nightmare. Nothing prepares you for your first  sprint interval session, I almost threw up, lost to a girl, and maybe cried a bit. After practice my grandpa asked if I wanted to go again, I said yes.

I run because it brings a sense of joy and calmness to life. Running teaches a transferable work to other aspects of life. To get better at running or anything else in life you have to be committed to discipline, consistency, and discomfort. I run for the life lessons and the opportunity to eat pancakes without guilt.

What does your daily routine look like?

Training wise, I train six days a week with at least five of those days spent at track practice. 3-4  days are also spent at YO Studios where I do vinyasa yoga or a core class.

Outside of training, I work full time, hang out with friends and relax.

Why do you take nutritional supplements and what supplements do you take?

Vitamin D is extremely important for me. Being Californian, you become accustomed to a certain amount of sunlight, we don’t get quite the same levels in Denmark. So to avoid winter depression vitamin D is a must. Also, zinc, magnesium, and potassium help fight cramping. This is especially beneficial to me, since you can come across a lot of calf cramping when sprinting. These vitamins and minerals help with post-practice recovery as well.
